HD Expo 2008

HD Expo LogoI have such high hopes for something really interesting to happen while at HD Expo. By interesting I mean that I hope to learn a lot, meet interesting people, and create opportunities for business development. Though I am not sure how that will happen, as I have no idea what to expect from the show, as it turns out, just the act of getting on the airplane to get there proved to be the beginning of the ‘something ‘ I am hoping for. On the plane, I was lucky enough to be seated next to a remarkably interesting person and developer whom I will hopefully talk more about in the future of this blog. Seems like just going, literally, has opened doors for exciting opportunities. I love how putting yourself out there makes things happen….Maybe it really is all about the journey and not the destination.

Catching up

We have been working our way toward this moment, as I mentioned, for quite some time, so we are going to step back a bit and cover some events that we had planned to talk about but missed. GDA is fairly new to the hospitality market, our roots are in residential design, so in an effort to meet colleagues, and learn about how who’s’ who and how things work in the industry, I made my first ever visit to HD Expo (that’s short for Hospitality Design Expo for all you other similar neophytes) in Las Vegas in Early May 2008. Also, our friend Russ Schleipman will share some of his thoughts about The RHS Chelsea Flower Show in London in mid- May where he was exhibiting the beautiful and fascinating Porter Garden Telescope. We will also cover two events in Quebec, the Ephemeral Gardens showcase that is taking place in Quebec City, this summer as well as the 9th annual International Metis Garden festival. So over the next few weeks we will work ourselves out of a backlog of blog entries and even though it is the middle of July we will turn the clocks back to the beginning of May and start working our way forward. Maybe we will catch ourselves sometime in August.

Welcome

After nearly two years of thinking about it and saying we should do it, we have done it…..joined the blogoshere. Here we are. What are we, Greayer Design Associates, doing here? I am not entirely sure, as with most things I jump in first and figure it out as we go along. I have a plan, but I know better than to think we are going to follow it. We are taking another giant seeming step for this company. Making a new way to meet and greet people who are interested in the same things that we are. Sharing what we know to make our business better and our world better. Hoping we can inspire, we launch this venture with the same wide eyed optimistic excitement that we have for most of our projects.

Starting with introductions… Greayer Design Associates, LLC specializes in the creation of luxurious gardens for private homes and hospitality & spa properties worldwide. We like our designs to take you away from it all. We strive to create inspiring exterior spaces by taking cues from art, fashion, architecture, interior design, history, culture, & nature. I, Rochelle Greayer started it all, but hope that my team and many of my respected colleagues will join in and take part in adding to this site. This space is as much for us at GDA as it is for our friends, colleagues and clients. We hope to be able to catalog the things we find amazing, share products, celebrate landscape design and keep on top of industry events related to landscape, garden, hospitality and spa design. As the hospitality industry by nature is travel oriented, we look around the world for inspiration and I hope that as this blog grows, it will take on a worldly audience and gather a sophisticated community.

That’s it, welcome to Studio g. We plan to update this a couple times per week and I hope that you will come back often to see what we are talking about and tell us what you think.

Best,

Rochelle
