Before & After: Sarah’s Enlivened Front Yard

It takes a lot of work to pull off a cottage garden that looks amazing all summer long, and it seems that more often than not I see these types of gardens finding themselves in a state of mid-season dissaray. And since most of us don’t have half as much time to dedicate to gardening as we’d like, this is what a once-beautiful garden usually transpires to.

I myself have been working hard to disassemble and regroup the cottage gardens that plastered our yard when we moved in 3 years ago, so when I saw these photos over on Sarah’s blog, I knew exactly what she was dealing with. A big, gangly, uncombed mess. This “after” shot is a huge difference, isn’t it?

Being up against constant weeding, Sarah decided it was time for something a little more manageable. She enhanced the look of the front yard by demolishing just about everything that was growing and started over. Crisp green grass and a much cleaner path really made her house come to life. People even began to stop by to tell her how much they loved it! It’s always nice when neighbors notice your hard work– great job, Sarah! -erin

UPDATE: You can see it is taking shape — hope you like it so far….still working….but getting there!! A serious change up is in order around here and while it is happening, things are going to be a little off. I tend to do these things myself (I just like to have my fingers all…

A Tale of Improving Weather, Gardening and Anaphylactic Shock

A Tale of Improving Weather, Gardening and Anaphylactic Shock

The snow is piling up (over the windows at this point) and my cabin fever is turning into a strange and crazy thing. I think I might be developing photokeratitis. We’ve run out of firewood and the oversized roof-cicles are making me feel like I live in a cage. So it is no wonder that…

A Studio ‘g’ Holiday Shopping List

My wife asked me as we drove with our four kids from Maine to North Carolina, what I would like for Christmas. You know the feeling of not really wanting anything other than warmth, good company, good food, and a healthy, happy family. Well, I am having those feelings this holiday season but there are…
