Before & After: Stella’s Front Yard Fix

front yard, city, stones, landscape, enhance, improve, plants, hostas, stonesThe morning holds a dull and rainy sky here in south central Wisconsin. But I’m okay with it….mid June and I haven’t had to water a single time this year! The gardens are looking pretty spectacular so far and while I could pull on my rain jacket and go move a few plants I think I’d rather stay in and blog. I found this great front yard makeover this morning and I was really excited that it included some beautiful landscaping stone. I’m waiting for 3000 lbs of limestone to be delivered so I’ve been lusting over any and all types of retaining walls. This one takes first prize for today.

Stella decided that she didn’t want anything to do with grass, so instead she opted to build up her small city plot with a variety of wall stone called “Earth Rainbow.” She researched retaining wall construction before she got started so there wouldn’t be any surprises after all her hard work, and once it was all complete, a few hostas and grasses were added alongside a new hydrangea. She finished it off with a rich, brown mulch and called it a day. I love a simple makeover that’s as high-impact as this one. Nice job, Stella! -erin

A Tale of Improving Weather, Gardening and Anaphylactic Shock

A Tale of Improving Weather, Gardening and Anaphylactic Shock

The snow is piling up (over the windows at this point) and my cabin fever is turning into a strange and crazy thing. I think I might be developing photokeratitis. We’ve run out of firewood and the oversized roof-cicles are making me feel like I live in a cage. So it is no wonder that…

A Studio ‘g’ Holiday Shopping List

You know the feeling of not really wanting anything other than warmth, good company, good food, and a healthy, happy family. Well, I am having those feelings this holiday season but there are…
