Girly Pink Pool Garden

This garden and pool scene is so darn cheesy, girly, pinky, I can’t believe how much I kinda love it.   Seriously, this couldn’t be further from my normal personal style, so I am baffled by my lust for this.  hmmmm…..

Maybe it is a side effect of the PTSD I have suffered from all the early winter/ autumn power outages we have had in the last few years – that I just want old school Florida frippery?

Has that ever happened to you?

Garden Gallery: A Southern Garden Poolhouse

poolhouse pool stone architectural beautiful

This pool house could make me actually want a pool.  I am lusting over the refined details and the simultaneous simplicity.  The structure was created by the architectural firm Henry Sprott Long and Associates and the interiors where done by Phoebe Howard.

When I see lovely projects like this featured in magazines, it always makes me wonder — who did the garden?  Was the designer not listed because their wasn’t one? Did the interior designer or architect do the garden design?  Because if they did, I would sure like to know that these people also have that talent.  Or was it just that for some reason, mentioning the garden designer is just simply (too often) forgotten?

Before & After: Durrant’s Hillside Pool

before and after garden harvard ma durrant garden design

It’s rare that I find a good before and after by a designer that is so close to home (at least for me) .  The Durrants of Durrant Design live right here in my little town and this project is not far from my house.  So it is with extra special pride in my hometown design colleagues that I share this beautiful makeover.

I love this garden for it’s nice way of working with the landscape elements that were already there and quite likely unable to move (like the ledge that is sticking out) and turning it into an organized, natural looking space that fits with the local vernacular.

Garden Gallery: Lauren’s Love in Every Language

garden by garden diva lauren crockett

I have total lusty garden envy this morning.  I have been checking out Lauren’s (the Garden Diva’s) beautiful (relatively) new website and I came across this drool inducing project.  She titled it ‘Love in every Language’ which has me wondering if there is some greater meaning to the design or if there is a fascinating story behind this garden.  Not sure, except to say that I amore, leifde, láska, cariad, grá, love it.

Seasonal Songs: Cool Patio Pool Party

music for a poolside patio party

If I still owned a record player, this four record set would already be mine…..but rather, in the digital age, I set about reconstructing some of the playlist for your next cool pool or patio party.

I completely enjoyed listening to these sounds and while compiling this post, I started to feel like I just can’t wait  to surprise my guests with this hip retro vibe when I next invite them over for garden libations.

Aloutte by Paul Mauriat — This makes me feel like I have entered some sort of 50′s Disney LSD party (which I think is party perfect).

Mack the Knife by Bobby Darin — Making things just the right amount of dangerously sexy.

More after the break.

DIY: Making an Outdoor Shower

sarah jessica parker outdoor shower

When I saw this, I had one of those, Ah-ha moments where I wondered why I didn’t think of that.

A number of years ago I had a project where, through the installation, a couple of large shade sails got damaged.  Nothing major, quarter sized holes in across a 16 ft span, but not suitable for the client whe paid top dollar and deserved undamaged goods.  So the spares have languished in my barn since.   I am determined to put a wood floor in the barn this summer so a big clean out is in order and I have been considering what to do with these sails.   And now I have it….make a shower stall in the garden.  (I have the perfect spot and have been wanting one forever)  All I need is to cut down the sails to size with my metal plumbing pipe frame, add rivets where needed, and string to the frame. (and of course put in the plumbing — but that is actually going to pretty easy, I think, with a quick phone call to the plumber). You could do this too with some marine grade fabric.

This BTW this an image from Sarah Jessica Parker’s house in the Hamptons and was featured in Elle Decor.
