Garden Games: Twister

twister on the grass

As I uncovered the grass of fallen pine needles and leaves this weekend, I am already longing for summer to come back.  If I had a child with a summer birthday, I think a large scale Twister competition and other yard games party might be the perfect way to entertain a crowd.   And a quick swipe of the mower returns the lawn to a more genteel feeling once everyone has gone home.

Garden Party Hats

Mr. Studio ‘g’ and I are thinking about throwing a little shindig, perhaps on valentines weekend.  We are still deciding – primarily because we don’t want to have just any old boring party where everyone gets a babysitter and sits around our house having too many cocktails (not that any good party wouldn’t also entail all that), its just that I need it to have some good intention, vibe or amusement, (I shy from word ‘theme’)….and I’m hitting a creative wall at the moment.

I am of the mind that if it can’t be good I won’t have it.  (I don’t know, perhaps I put too much pressure on these things…your suggested ideas are wholeheartedly accepted).  Casting about with a party in mind, I came across something that while not exactly what I was thinking for my gathering, is perfect for a summer celebration.  I’m filing it away for mardi gras, summer birthdays, and general garden gatherings.

The hats can come pre-made or you can buy kits to make your own.  This kind of thing is right up my daughters alley and I can envision a hat making birthday in the future.  My favorite part thought is all the lovely greenery, flowers and the earthy, found-object charm.  Find out more and see more styles at Glory B hats.

Kreativa kvadratmeter (Creative Square Meter) – Swedish Garden Inspiration

I am all around the world today – taking inspiration from Brazil and now Sweden. Perhaps I have a little cabin fever as I sit here in my snow bound house.

Over at Purple Area, I discovered this book Kreativa kvadrameter (translation: Creative Square Meters)….which I am not sure how to get my hands on. It is a Swedish garden design book and the images alone are enough to sell me on buying a copy.

Typically, I am still obsessed with black in the garden – or at least black on the house and what looks good around it.  This black nook with white details and green ivy everywhere is precisely where I would rather be right now. (instead of in my kitchen with the blasting furnace — a futile to effort to ward off subzero temps outside)

The children’s garden ideas are also appealing to me.  Do you know chidren who play like this?  Mine don’t, but I think they would.  I am going to head over to ebay and see what kind of treasures I might be able to score for them to use in their own garden scenes.

Post Gardens

Towards the end of last week, things, once again, went right of control.   Do you need to know anything about asbestos removal?  Go ahead and ask.  After performing an emergency removal in my own basement (in order to allow the furnace install guy to finish his work and give us our heat back) – I think I can claim to be a minor expert.  Also, feel free to ask for details about throwing a pumpkin carving party for 20 kids and a VIP After Party.  But don’t ask about tumors on the backs of sweet little kitties, if I knew how to get rid of those I would do so immediately on my own sweet Chuck – hopefully saving his life.   Yes, last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday were a bit too much – I really am ready for the quiet of winter.

This charmed me today, as I am finally, happily, sitting down to my computer….

Please accept my apologies for temporarily going A.W.O.L.

You can buy a post garden or find stockists for the post garden at their website.

Japanese Garden Playhouse

Here is a little inspiration for you that I found over at Cretique (click for more images).  It has me thinking of garden buildings that have the roof built inside the structure, play structures that are knitted, and Lincoln log- like construction…as well as jaw dropping coolness….

Before & After: A Golfer’s Paradise

I love when gardens are created to be so uniquely relevant to their creators.  This putting green is actually quite pretty and I can imagine a sweet family hanging out having a meal, playing golf – everyone together.
