Daily Garden: Nicole de Vesian’s La Louve (The She-Wolf)

Nicole de Vésian is well known for her career in fashion at the House of Hermes, but in her not so retiring, retirement, she found new fame working as a garden designer. Her own garden at her home in Bonnieux, in the Provence region of  France is a beautiful tapestry of three dimensional shapes.   “La Louve” (The She-Wolf) has often been called her greatest design project.  La Louve covers less than 500 square metres and is built on hillside terraces. The Current owner, Judith Pillsbury, an art dealer, calls it the most important work of art she owns.  The inspiration I am personally taking from this floral-free shapely masterpiece reminds me that I think I need a few more evergreen shapes in my own garden.

  1. This garden has been on my must see list since I saw my first picture of it. Thanks for reminding me that I want to go and also that I’m not in France for the summer!

The snow is piling up (over the windows at this point) and my cabin fever is turning into a strange and crazy thing. I think I might be developing photokeratitis. We’ve run out of firewood and the oversized roof-cicles are making me feel like I live in a cage. So it is no wonder that…

A Studio ‘g’ Holiday Shopping List

My wife asked me as we drove with our four kids from Maine to North Carolina, what I would like for Christmas. You know the feeling of not really wanting anything other than warmth, good company, good food, and a healthy, happy family. Well, I am having those feelings this holiday season but there are…

The Bittersweet Dilemma – Solved!

The Bittersweet Dilemma – Solved!

After years of yanking the pervasive (and invasive) red roots of bittersweet from my garden beds, I am highly paranoid about the re-introduction of this noxious weed. But I can’t deny that it is simply beautiful this time of year.  I’m constantly seeing it grace all sorts of stylish tables,  and long strands are regularly used…
